Value and for a long time has been linked to cash, crypto currencies but after all it is just about resources, ingredients. Potatoes, electricity, Cumin, service, water, onions. 

Value measurment is also relative. There is this lady I buy my beans from she has this old can and she fills it with beans, lentils, rice and just define its price, but she does have a scale on the side in the case a grammer wants to gram. 

anyways, dots is a local and decentralized currency inspired by the barter system. When I say decentralized I mean you can keep track of it with rocks. 

Imagine you are in a mountain and it you and your neighbour they have eggs and you got potatoes but have no money and no crypocurrency, definily can't be exchanging 1 egg for 1 potatoe. Knowing that your neighbour has enough supply of eggs and they are willing to exchange with you through out the year is a good start.
